Nothing to see here.....

Dear Facebook,
What's the big deal?  Why do you keep deleting our photos?
Our species, Homo sapiens (I presume you've heard of us?), is a mammal
Mammals 'are members of a class of air-breathing vertebrate animals characterized by the possession of hair, three middle ear bones, and mammary glands functional in mothers with young.'
Simply put, this means that, in common with other mammals we have:
  • a backbone (ie. we're not spine-less)
  • hair (you have some, right?),
  • three tiny bones in our ears which help us to hear and give us our sense of balance (I note you seem to have lost yours?)
  • breasts, which we use to feed our young.
You may have noticed that the final element on this list is only fully functional in the female of the species.  However, that doesn't mean that breastfeeding is somehow a less defining characteristic of Homo sapiens.  It remains key to what we are.

So you see, breastfeeding is not obscene, or offensive, or whatever else Facebook seems to be suggesting by deleting these pictures.  It's simply the normal thing for a human mother and her infant to do.
That makes you the weirdos...
Sincerely, DBM
*THANK YOU TO ALL THE MUMS WHO FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO SHARE THEIR BREASTFEEDING PICTURES WITH OTHER MUMS.*

  1. These pictures are so so SO important--they show that BFing is possible for most situations! I'm so glad that there is another medium on which you can show these photos...I am sad that it's not one that is as easy to find as FB is.

  5. Breastfeeding is great. It's important for babies to be given natural food, not manufactured rubbish by the formula companies touting their wares as superior to a mum's breast milk. Lovely pics.

  6. Defecating is also not offensive nor obscene, it's just as natural as breastfeeding, but I'm sure no sane person would post a picture doing it. I'm sorry, these pictures are just disgusting, especially the one in which the fat woman in glasses is feeding two babies at the same time.
